The City of Peoria, partnering with District 150 and Tri-County Regional Planning Commission, is implementing the Glen Oak School Neighborhood Impact Zone in the area around the site for the new Glen Oak School. The $20 million plus investment of public funds for the school is being used for the catalyst of a new type of neighborhood improvement plan for the area surrounding the school – homes, business, faith based organizations and others.
This new type of plan recognizes the critical relationship between healthy schools and healthy residential/business neighborhoods, and will be built on the vision the current investors [homeowners, tenants, land owners, business owners] want for their community.
We have several opportunities for the community, the current investors, to provide input, direction, and hopes…and we need your help on one of those opportunities. The door-to-door survey being conducted on Saturday, June 28 needs volunteers. Volunteers will work in teams of four, with 2 people approaching every home in the Zone, donating approximately 2 1/2 hours.
Those that are interested in helping build the community around this new school in this neighborhood should:
- E-mail me back only if you can participate.
- Show up at Glen Oak School, corner of Wisconsin and Frye, at 9:00 am, Saturday, June 28 for a brief training session and team assignments. Please park in the Glen Oak School parking lot or on the street.
- Wear comfortable shoes and clothing, and plan on traveling light [don't weigh your self down with purses, totes, etc.]
- Plan on conducting surveys starting from 9:30 – 12. Keep in mind, the more people that show up, the quicker we all get done. We have just over 600 doors we want to knock on!
Hope to hear back that you can help! Thanks – Pat
