Regional Neighborhood Network Conference (RNNC)

Posted by Mary Genzel on Oct 6, 2008

I Just returned from the RNNC Conference that was held in Lima (prounenced) like the bean, Ohio.  There were over 350 in attendance and Peoria had the largest delegation there with 39 I believe.

We attended several mettings on Friday. I attended How to Advocate Effectively for Neighborhood Issues; How to Engage your Community For Change; How to create a Neighborhood Plan and How to Diversify your Community Group. We did break for lunch and it was so exciting when they announced that Carol Holford of Peoria was awarded the Stella Stewart Award “Doin Good in the Neighborhood” (2008) After the meetings were over we boarded buses for various tours, I was on the Parks tour viewing several of the parks in the Lima area.  It was quite impressive. After that, we had dinner and entertainment and then back to the conference at 7am for breakfast, keynote speaker and one more seminar.  I was in the Improving Neighborhood Communication.  That was eyeopening as well. Everyone was very impressed with Peoria as we had three councilmen present and several city staff workers go.  Eric Turner assured us on the way back home that the council is prepared to implement some of the ideas we brought back with us to better our neighborhoods.  The worst part, the long bus ride….there are too many best parts to list! Next year it will be in Decatur, so please plan on going. It is well worth it.  Sincerely, Mary Genzel, Secretary, Jackson Corners
