FEMA Disaster Assistance

Posted by Brad on Nov 14, 2008

Chief Kent Tomblin and our ESDA Division have been notified by FEMA that Peoria County has been declared a federal disaster which makes individual assistance programs available for those that qualify. There is a deadline of December 2, 2008, and we do not know if the deadline will be extended. Everyone who had damage can apply, but there is no guarantee that they will receive funding.

Special thanks to Chief Tomblin and his staff for working to make sure that Peoria was included in the consideration for disaster relief.

City and County ESDA along with individuals from our Public Works Department, met with FEMA today to discuss the disaster assistance. Over 55 households received damages and our ESDA department is working to see which individuals will be covered.

The only way to apply for individual assistance is for people to call FEMA or apply online. The website address is www.fema.gov. The phone number is 1/800-621-3362.

FEMA is going around to the areas in Peoria where ESDA has received reports of damage. FEMA is making door to door contacts to the 55 addresses provided by ESDA.

Please share this information with constituents who may contact you about water damage they received as a result of the storms in our area this summer. Please also let them know that all FEMA inspectors will have photo identification, and residents should ask to see this identification before sharing personal information.
